It was 68 degrees today. Amazing! Almost 70 degrees in February?! I dig it. Today was a typical Sunday. Laid around and didn't really do anything. It was the 3rd day in a row that we went on a walk, tho, so that felt nice. (And I didn't get harassed by the yippy dog either, like I did the other day. Little guy lunged at my leg! Eeek!). J made a fantastic pizza from scratch for dinner and it was so good and cheesy! Told you I lucked out. :)
Yesterday was 65 degrees. Also amazing. We were out and about running errands and driving with the windows down and not being cold! While slowly getting ready to go out for the evening, J heard a small boom, which, minutes later, was followed by sirens. Lots and lots of sirens. And more sirens. Getting closer. We decided we needed to investigate this. We walked out into the living room and it was slightly lit up red and flashing so we opened the door to what can only be described as smokey chaos and loud noises. We ran down the steps and into the yard, trying to guess what the HECK was happening, (car accident?! PLANE CRASH?!!), followed by me screaming at the top of my lungs, "THE NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!". I came to this conclusion when something bright and orange caused me to look up and back, instead of in the street where all the emergency vehicles were. (There were no less than 20...as far as we could see.) The flames were SHOOTING out of the roof of the house next door and there was smoke coming from every vent and every window. We ran around the house to the back yard, as to get a better view. Dozens of firemen were running around, climbing up on the roof. Fire alarms were going off left and right, it was NUTS! Thankfully, everyone made it out okay, minus the kitty cat, who they never found. (In my mind, he/she is still hiding in the house, scared to come out. Poor kitty.) It turns out the grandma who lives there fell asleep with a cig in her hand, and must have dropped it onto something extremely flammable, causing the minor explosion J heard. The house sustained "heavy damage", and does not look good. While walking by it today, the homeowners were sitting out on the front lawn...they were noticeably upset, and it seemed that they had been scrubbing and cleaning all morning. Wonder what they're gonna do? Very scary. SMOKING IS BAD!
Speaking of smoking, most of the bars here still allow it indoors. And as luck would have it, every one of the roomies (besides J and I) and almost everyone in the group of friends we hang with smokes. So which bars do you think we go to? You got it, the smoking ones. Hopefully it won't be so bad when it gets to be a little warmer, as I think most of the bars open their windows, or most have patios. But being stuck in a place with heavy heavy smoke in the air is not so fun. Especially when your eyes start to water and your clothes and hair start to stink. Yuck. We have to wash our pillow cases today cause they smell like an ashtray.
Right now J is in the basement writing songs with a friend. The stuff that they come up with is pretty amazing, so I'm excited to hear it. The rest of the roomies are out in the living room watching Olympic hockey and cheering very loudly. GO USA!
I had my first bout of homesickness last night. I miss my friends and my family and my bedroom and my cat. It's a weird adjustment. I'm excited to be in a new place and I'm so happy that I'm with J, I just wish I could have my friends and family here too. Why can't I have it all, dang it?! I know that once I make some friends of my own I'll feel better. It's just hard. And scary. And being unemployed doesn't really help. So much to do.
